I’ve always been self-conscious about my body. I would look in the mirror and focus on what I thought needed to be "fixed": the curves that weren’t in the "right" places or the way my clothes didn’t fit like I wished they would. I told myself I would book a boudoir shoot for myself one day, when I was thinner, fitter, or "ready." That "one day" never seemed to arrive.

Then, I made a decision. Instead of continuing to wait for a version of myself I thought I needed to be, I booked a boudoir session as inspiration to begin my fitness journey. I thought it would be a "before" moment, something to remind me of what I was working toward. What I didn’t expect was for it to become one of the most transformative and empowering experiences of my life.

Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone

Walking into the studio that day, I was terrified. Every insecurity bubbled to the surface: What if I hated the photos? What if I didn’t look good? What if I confirmed all my worst fears about myself?

But as soon as the session began, something shifted. My photographer (yes, even photographers need photographers!) guided me with so much kindness and understanding. She showed me how to pose in ways that celebrated my natural curves and encouraged me to embrace the moment. Slowly but surely, I started to let go of my insecurities and just be.

Seeing Myself Through a Different Lens

When the final photos were ready, I prepared myself to cringe. Instead, I saw my body as beautiful—not because it was perfect, but because it was me. I saw strength in the lines around my belly, softness in the curves of my hips, and a light in my eyes. The very "flaws" I had spent so long obsessing over were what made the images so uniquely mine.

It was in those photos that I realized something profound: I didn’t need to lose weight or change my body to deserve love or feel beautiful. I was already worthy of that—exactly as I was.

Finding Beauty in the "Uglies"

We all have moments where we feel less than perfect. Maybe it’s the stretch marks from carrying children, the scars that tell stories of survival, or the extra weight gained during tough seasons of life. But those "imperfections" are what make us human. They’re reminders of where we’ve been and what we’ve overcome. When I stopped viewing my body as a project to be fixed and started seeing it as a canvas of my journey, everything changed.

That boudoir session didn’t just give me beautiful photos; it gave me a new perspective. I started treating my body with more kindness and care—not because I wanted to change it, but because I wanted to honor it.

A Message for You

If you’ve ever thought, "I’ll book a boudoir session when I lose the weight," or "I’ll do it when I’m more confident," I’m here to tell you this: You are already enough. Don’t wait to celebrate yourself. Don’t wait to love yourself. There is beauty in the here and now, even if you don’t always see it. And sometimes, all it takes is seeing yourself through someone else’s lens to truly believe it.

As a photographer who’s been on both sides of the camera, I can promise you this: boudoir isn’t about having the "perfect" body. It’s about celebrating the perfectly imperfect you. It’s about reclaiming your confidence, embracing your unique beauty, and finding strength in your vulnerability.

So, whether you’re a size 2 or 22, whether you’re feeling your best or struggling to love the skin you’re in, know this: you are worthy of this experience. You are worthy of feeling beautiful. You are worthy of love—from others, and most importantly, from yourself.

Book the session. Step into your power. And let me show you just how incredible you already are.
